In the Bowling Green area, social marketing is becoming a new trend among local businesses. They have found the importance of social marketing and are learning the techniques needed to implement a successfully campaign. One specific business that has been the first to create a highly successful campaign in this area is Trent Bedding.
When discussing advertisements that are viewed on televisions, most local residents are aware of Trent Bedding's. Trent, himself, is known for creating and being involved in his business' advertisements while bringing a fun atmosphere to the viewer. In the past, he has created his own jingle (which would be stuck in your head for days), come up which store slogans which created a good positioning in the consumer mind, and provide promotions that were hard to compare with the competitor.
Trent's new form of advertising was using social media via Facebook and television. Through his television commercials he promoted a contest available to his Facebook friends(Trent Bedding Contest). The contest included creating a 30 second commercial for Trent Bedding and uploading it to the official Facebook page. Once the video was uploaded, the person who received the largest amount of "likes" on their video had the opportunity to receive up to $2000 dollars worth of prizes provided by other local businesses. The commercial would then take the place of Trent's usual commercials on T.V. By promoting the contest via television, he was able to reach out to local residents, including WKU students, and bring them to the store's Facebook page.
The contest was a huge success, having over 20 people take the time to put together a commercial along with a combination of 1,200 "likes" among all videos. I can personally say that I had never been to Trent Bedding's Facebook page until I was asked by one of my Facebook friends to "like" her video. This amount of publicity is amazing for a local business and will hopefully encourage people to revisit the site often to check out other opportunities and promotions. Be sure to keep your eyes out for the winner's commercial! It could be your next door neighbor!

ReplyDeleteI thought Trents contest was a great success. Whether you love his goofy commercials or hate them, you have to admit that this was a great way to use social media to promote his business. He gave people an opportunity to be on TV (which only further promoted his business), and the prizes were donated by other businesses. Genius! Think of the possible business he could get from the 20 contestants plus the 1,200 people that voted. So, which one did you like the most?
ReplyDeleteTrent Bedding has been known throughout this community BECAUSE of their advertisements through commercials mainly. They rely on their "catchy" commercials (to say the least) to be able to make an impact on its viewers, which in turn make the company a very talked-about one. I'm glad they have ventured out into the social media marketing world as a Bowling Green company. Maybe their use of it will help other competitors and local businesses catch on to this latest marketing trend.
ReplyDeleteI had not heard of this Facebook contest until now! What a brilliant idea! I have never bought a mattress or bedding from a store in Bowling Green but Trent Bedding would be the store that stuck out to me because of the commercials. Yes they are a little goofy, but they catch the audience eye and it is rememberable. Great advertising via social media idea from Trent Bedding. Honestly not very expensive for them either! Great Post... I wish I would have learned about it earlier so I could have cast a few votes:)

As we mentioned in class this week, few local Bowling Green businesses have gotten involved in social media marketing. I believe that this social media marketing campaign was a great idea. Anyone that has ever heard of Trent Bedding would be able to recognize one of their catchy commercials or jingles. Knowing Trent Bedding's creative marketing style, I am sure participants in the campaign felt the freedom to express their own individual creativity and put their own twist on their submitted commercials. These commercials could help Trent Bedding with ideas for future advertisements.
ReplyDeleteTrent Bedding Commercials annoy me but I always remember them and understand what point he is trying to get across to the viewers. I met Trent in a Marketing class and found that he is nothing like what he portrays his self in commercials. A lot quiet and calmer, than expected. He has found the right way to connect to the community and make it fun to be involved. I think the contest was a great idea and probably brought a lot of new people to the site.

The last 5 years have been a blast making silly commercials. They are really my personality coming to life on TV. We have A LOT of fun around the Ole Mattress Store but making people sleep better is our main concern. Dont be fooled though, I have a strong desire in life to make people laugh and that means making fun of myself, well.... SOBEIT!!
